Toscana Italia has gone the extra mile to recreate one of the most famous and desired leather methods: Russian pine tar tanning, the same used for the famous Metta Catharina reindeer leather. 

Having handled and worked with the original, I can say this is a faithful reproduction of that leather. It is truly astonishing. Not only do they have the temper and appearance absolutely nailed, they also have replicated the unique aroma that comes from the tanning process itself. 

Their own description is apt: "Perhaps, it is the most masculine, robust and natural leather among all that we have produced. Unlike our other articles, this leather is distinguished by a prolonged retanning process in dark wood bark tannins, followed by treatment with oxidized oils and wood tar."

I paired two of their unique shells together to make this wallet. The exterior back and interior pockets are made from the reproduction Metta Catharina shell, and the interior pockets are made using their unique 'Yuft' shell. These two finishes go together nicely and give the wallet a distinct aroma of wood and smoke.

The wallet itself features four card slots and two tall hidden slots which can accommodate folded US bills. It folds down to a compact 3" x 4" and can easily be carried in a front pocket. Between the card slots it is adorned with my battleship logo, stamped into the backside of the exterior shell.
