Single Sided Card Wallet, DeSoto Motif
The multitude of color and thread options can be somewhat bewildering, so I’ve taken the liberty of putting together a few options that I think look particularly good, or have some particular inspiration behind them.
This pattern comes from an absolutely beautiful DeSoto Fireflite we painted some years ago. In today’s current trend of solid greys and greens on cars, it is hard to imagine that these were stock factory color arrangements for the day. If you think the exterior is something, you should have seen the upholstery inside!
This is a simplistic take on the idea, with a Purple Buttero exterior, Rose Buttero interior, and pale purple stitches. The rose lining produces a stripe of color down the side and a nice contrast on the interior.
This wallet is ideal for a person who needs to carry only 2-3 cards and infrequently papers or bills, but also does not want to compromise on style or appearances. I have condensed the capacity down to two individual card slots and a third top-opening slot in the center for bills, papers, or yet more cards. Strictly limiting the intended capacity of this wallet allows me to keep it small and, most importantly, very thin: only 3″ x 4″ and 1/8″ thick when empty.
This wallet is made with Italian ‘Buttero’ (meaning Cowboy) vegetable tanned leather from Conceria Walpier tannery in Tuscany. Buttero is prized for its rich depth of color, smooth consistent grain finish and patina development over time and use. It is completely hand stitched with waxed polyester thread, meaning that these features combine to make a wallet that looks beautiful and is also long lasting.
Depending on my queue at the time, it takes me on average 3-4 weeks to fulfill an order. This length of time can be longer if I have a lot of orders ahead but I try to keep my customers appraised of how long they can expect to wait to receive their wallet. When completed, I ship via USPS Priority Mail with insurance.
